Dear Garden Club
Parents,
Welcome to the first
session of the 2012-13 Garden Club. We are going to have a very exciting
year! We have new garden boxes and fresh soil ready to be planted!
The El Morro
Garden Club meets Mondays from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Students choose how they spend
their time in the garden. Options include:
· Working in the garden (planting, weeding, harvesting).
· Completing a garden-themed, hands-on activity that enhances
their understanding of math, science, reading, writing, or creative arts.
· Engaging in supervised "free play" utilizing a bin
of supplies such as books, journals, magnifying glasses, and art supplies.
To keep posted on
weekly garden activities, take a look at our blog at: http://elmorrogarden.blogspot.com/
Here are some tips to
keep in mind when sending your children to the garden on Mondays:
· Please pack water in your child's backpack
· Make sure your child is wearing sunscreen
· Garden/rain boots and a hat are always a good idea
· We will be getting dirty and sometimes painting, so please
dress your child accordingly.
When you registered
for school, you signed a waiver to allow your child to be
photographed. I will post some photos on the blog (without names) showing
the children working in the garden. If you prefer NOT
to have child's photo posted, please let me know.
I will be providing a
healthy snack for the kids before heading to the garden. I find that they
concentrate better if they have a little fuel in their bellies. The cost
is not covered by the PTA, so if you are interested in donating snack
for Garden Club, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. It
can be left in the office anytime on Monday.
We are lucky to have Master
Gardener Fran Renna volunteering her time for Garden Club. However, we could
always use some extra hands. I always welcome parents to volunteer in the
garden anytime. Whether you have an occasional day to lend a hand or would like
to attend weekly, the kids love seeing their parent helping out. If you are
able to join us, please let me know.
Thanks for your
support! Feel free to contact me with any questions.
